Roskilde

It is not true that Denmark is a boring place. You just need to know how to make the best out of it. Indeed if you come from a country which is very happening, having eatery outlets running 24/7 and people still hanging around in the wee hours, Denmark is the complete opposite.

However, Denmark has many places which you can spend quality time with family and friends, sitting back and relax. You could bike around the town or in the parks, taking train rides to other cities or towns, chilling out at La Glace (a popular confectionery/pastry cafe along the Strøget), reading a book by the waters in a park, snapping pictures or inviting friends over for a movie night/dinner. Yes, they do sound simple and "boring" but I find they are the best ways to fill up your time in a peaceful place like Denmark.

Should you intend to take train rides, do not miss Roskilde. Take a regional train and you should be there in an hour or so. It is a quaint town, no smaller than Copenhagen, offering many cultural and artistic sites for nature and art lovers. Even if you are not into art or culture, it is a pleasant place to walk around and spend your day lazily.

Though I am not a museum person, I must say that I did enjoy the Viking museum in Roskilde and I would certainly recommend it.

I shall let the pictures speak for itself.
Pardon me for my lack of sense for posing :p You will not miss these 3 vases because you could see them right after you exit the Roskilde train station.

The Roskilde Cathedral

After visiting the Roskilde Cathedral and walking along the rows of houses by the waters, take a bus to the Viking museum Vikingeskibsmuseet (Sorry, I can't remember what is the bus number -.-). It is an open air museum.

Caution: Do not be a hero and jump into the waters without looking what is in it. That amount of jellyfish could certainly kill.....

Food Art?

I was going through my collection of photos taken but safely resting in my hard disk and see what I have got! Haha. The good old times. My colleague cheekily turned my little fruit into a comical character while I was away for a meeting!

Nah, the poor little thing still ended up in my tummy in the end ;p

Cafe Dermaga, Pantai Mutiara, Jakarta

Apart from Riung Tenda, Cafe Dermaga was the second restaurant I visited in my less than a month's stay in Jakarta ( this is an outdated post =p). It is located by the sea and it simply reminded me of Langelinie (a housing area by the waters in Copenhagen).

From Cafe Dermaga, you could see boats and yachts floating on the waters along the tastefully and modernly designed houses.

According to the local, Cafe Dermaga is known for its Bakmi Sakaw. Actually, we all felt that it wasn't as spectacular as expected. Perhaps our expectations were already raised by recommendations given by friends. I tried the "kuey teow goreng" instead since I am not a huge fan of yellow noodles. Surprisingly, it (had a familiar and homely taste of "char kuey teow" back in Malaysia!!) tasted nicer than the Bakmi Sakaw. That was a pleasant surprise.

One more thing I noticed in local restaurants in Jakarta is that when the menu said "Orange Juice", they actually meant "Jeruk" instead of orange because the "Orange Juice" that was served certainly didn't resemble or  taste like the normal orange juice I had anticipated.
