Weekend Getaway

I cannot recall when was the last time I head to the airport to send off some one. That was exactly what I did this morning. A friend who is also my colleague was flying back to Malaysia after expatriated to Copenhagen for 2 years. No doubt that she will be dearly missed by all of us here. Apart from her cheerful and contagious laughter, what every one of us will miss is her cooking. She had always been generous in sharing good food (cooked by herself) with all of us. Hope you had a pleasant flight, Pat! See you next year back home ;)

After sending Pat off, I went for Dim Sum in a Chinese restaurant with two other friends. Perhaps I was being demanding, the food wasn't exactly great but I did enjoy the good company. Once our tummies were filled, we went to a grocery wholesaler. It was so tempting. I wanted to get the cheese, frozen seafood (which were of good quality) and some snacks but thought shall do that next time. I was carrying a pillow with me for almost a day - Pat gave it to me before leaving.

For the past 1 week, I had been eating out and it surprised me that the amount of money spent in each restaurant was worthwhile (by Danish standard, of course). It was actually cheaper than Danish cuisine and every meal was very enjoyable. Food was good and not to mention the company I had. Tonight, I decided to cook as I was trying to clear everything that I bought a week or 2 weeks ago. Thanks to Bronte, I managed to accomplish the mission! She was my guinea pig. Not that it was my first attempt to cook but I must admit that I had not cooked for someone in ages. Most of the time, I cooked for myself. So, quality control wasn't very much emphasised =p Luckily, it didn't turn out bad after all ;)

I am looking forward to tomorrow, for another enjoyable day with great company. Alas, Monday is awaiting the very next moment. Wish weekends can be longer. Oh well, maybe if I am a vampire, I will have or at least feel that there's more time as vampires don't need to sleep! Er,...did the New Moon fever crept into me ~.~"""

Great To Have You!

Herewith, dedicating this song to all who have made my journey of life worthwhile. Glad to have known you. You know who you are ;)

P/S: I can't help but notice how chubby Ken is right now, compared to his appearance in this MV!

New Moon

The cheesy lines could probably melt the heart of young girls. There aren't that many actions as anticipated in New Moon. Edward Cullen doesn't look as captivating as he was in Twilight. He is in pain (for having to leave Bella), hence his pale look and becomes less appealing, my sister came to his defence. At some point, I agree but he is still too pale to be attractive =p

It was an all girls outing on Saturday. There were 3 of them who had not seen Twilight. So, after the movie, we had a Twilight series marathon. We saw Twilight so that the rest of the 3 girls could relate. They should have seen the prequel first. Alas, time didn't permit them to do so. I must say that I still prefer Twilight to New Moon. Perhaps the book may change my mind. I am still working on Twilight, not even half of the book is read. Ganbatte! There are a number of details not mentioned in the movie, which made those who has not read the book wonder a little.

Anyway, I reckon fans of Twilight series will definitely give a go to New Moon despite what the review is. All in all, it's entertaining and it provides a lot of topics of discussion among girls - well, now there are 2 hunks to scream over. So, guys, please bear with the girls for a while.

All right, let me get back to the cheesy-vampire-romance-thriller ;p I need to at least finish the first book!

A sunny morning

I was expecting another rainy morning. Glad that I was wrong. Mr. Sun showed up today! Yay...The ground was still damp with the rain drops from last night and the chill was still lingering in the air but it wasn't as cold as the day before. A good start for a Saturday morning!
I ought to give myself a pat on the shoulder for staying to my plan - got myself out of the house to do some shopping. While I was walking to the train station, I stopped by the neighbourhood to take some photos. This is actually the first time I stopped to look around and snapped some photos. I should do this more often before I forget. As you can see from the pictures, the trees are "balding".

The leaves are actually red in colour and that's exactly what I was trying to capture. Beautiful, aren't they? The park near my neighbourhood. There's a lake right at the middle. I haven't explored it, what a shame. I planned to do that tomorrow morning ;)Mr. Sun, here you are! No more hide and seek games, ok? Mmm..I was trying to adjust the flash but the camera wasn't responding. In fact, I had already used the backlight mode so that the picture will not be dark. No luck =(

It's embarassing that I always head towards the opposite direction which I was supposed to go when I take the train @_@
I made it to the shopping mall (Fields - www.fields.dk) successfully but when I was getting home, I took the train from the opposite direction =.="" To my defence, I was reasoning that I should not be taking the train from the same platform that I hopped off earlier. It should be the track of the opposite direction from where I came. Boy, how wrong I was.

The train DID go to the correct direction initially. I happily smiled to myself that I finally got it right! Little did I know that when the train stopped at the central station, it would go back to the direction the train came from and head to another part of Denmark - away from the Copenhagen town! When the train stopped at the central station, my instinct told me that I need to hop off but I brushed it aside thinking that the train was actually moving the right direction. However, when the train started to move again, I notice it took a different direction. Startled, I asked the train personnel and she said the train was heading to Jetland! Where on earth is that place?? I quickly hopped off on the next stop and that was quite far away. Phew........

While waiting for the train back home, an old man suddenly came to me and started to talk Danish. I showed him an apologetic face and politely told him I didn't understand Danish. He spoke some English and gave a pat on my shoulder. I think he was drunk (or he wasn't on his right mind). He was talking to every single person in the station and started to smoke! It was a non-smoking area. Brrr....I hurrily walked out to the outdoor platform for some fresh air. Perhaps God took pity on us, it wasn't that cold outside.

My arms were aching from the heavy groceries I bought today. They were all heavy things and the nearest bus stop which the bus I needed to take to go home was about 12 minutes walk. It may not be that far but with the weight, it seemed farther.

Apart from groceries, managed to get 2 cardigans for 120DKK (60DKK per piece)! That's quite cheap compared to others that I saw (usually about 100-120DKK per piece). I intended to get a coat too but the price turned me off. Maybe that's not costly at all, just that I never needed to buy a coat and hence not knowing how much does it usually cost.

Dinner! I have been cooking the same thing for the past 4 weeks I am in Copenhagen (whenever I really cooked). I bought rice grain today and probably will be cooking chicken rice with the chicken stock/paste Nico gave me last week, for a change.

You Can Let Go

As usual, I woke up to chat with my sis. While she's not online yet, I checked out other things. As I was going through my mails, saw a video sent by Cher. It's really touching and I would like to share it here.

Another rainy day

It was rainy the whole day again. I was hooked up on the phone with the service desk as the guy on the other end tried to fix a problem with my application. It took about an hour! It was 8.30pm by the time I left office. Luckily, the timing was right to hop onto the bus.

My mind was racing as I was considering to cook for dinner or to eat out. My tummy was growling and it was cold. Well, I suppose you could have guessed it - laziness ruled in such a crappy weather. Again, I found myself returning to the Vietnamese restaurant. Tonight was my third visit in a week! I ought to get a life..LOL.

I plan to do some shopping tomorrow after a cleaning spree last Saturday. The Bilka magazine lying on my colleague's caught my attention this afternoon as I was speaking to another colleague. After asking my colleague, Bilka (supermarket) is located in a shopping mall! Aha,..killing 2 birds with one stone! While I could take a stroll in the mall, I could do some shopping too for my new home. I also plan to take some photographs around the town before all trees turn into complete baldness and before the weather turn unbearable even to stand outdoor for 10 minutes. Perhaps, I shall do that on Sunday while I dedicate Saturday for shopping. It is completely darkness as it strikes 4.30pm. So, I might as well do photography during the day. The photos would have looked better.

All right, I better retire to bed early as my eyelids are getting heavy now. Night!

Crappy Weather

The weather hasn't been treating the Danish well lately. It has been raining every day - morning, afternoon and even in the evening. The air is getting chilly and damp. Not exactly a good weather to walk around. Sky is getting dark sooner as well. Winter is coming soon and so is my Hongkie colleague! I am so excited. She will be joining my team. Perfect!

After work today, I went to a Vietnamese restaurant which was only a street away from my apartment. I had my dinner there on Monday, actually. The price is rather all right and I like the fact that the Asian food that is served there is rather authentic and the restaurant owner speaks Cantonese! Perhaps I should try other eateries as well (No hurry. This is only my first week in the neighbourhood). There are quite a number of them around my housing area. All right, shall visit one by one and before entering, I better remember to glance at the price ;p

Home made egg tarts!

Nah, I didn't make them. It was my friend's birthday yesterday. So, we went to another friend's house (who played the host for the birthday gathering) to have steamboat and celebrate the friend's birthday. It was a great evening. We cooked, ate, drank ( I tried apple cider with cranberries, champagne and a white wine - took a small sip each from the birthday's girl wine glass as she was commenting how great they taste. It was fine if it's just a sip. They are mostly slightly sweet.)

Apart from a blackforest cake baked by a Hongkie guy, we had egg tarts! They are all yummy. We were pretty impressed that the guy made delicious looking blackforest cake (not only looked good but taste just as good!) and the best part is, he didn't use butter! That's perfect! No need to worry about calories hehehehe.

There were too many egg tarts. So, we packed some back and I had them for breakfast this morning. Yummy!

My New Home!

I have finally found a place and moved in yesterday! Luckily it is at the 1st floor. So, saved me some energy to carry my things up to the apartment. Not that I have lots of things but the luggage was indeed heavy.

Saturday was kicked off with a cleaning spree. Though it was occupied by a girl previously, the house appeared rather dusty. I lost count how many times I mopped the floor! Fortunately, Danish apartments are not large (anyway, just need to pay more if you want a larger apartment but it's seriously expensive). I got rid of the carpets in the living room and in the dining room too. They left fuzzy fibres all over the place and all dust were swept under the carpet! They are heavy and dirty. Ewww....that's not tolerable. So, I told landlord to take away them since I had nicely kept it aside.

I am pretty happy with the place. The location is good and I love the living room. Well, let's take a tour to my house. I skipped the washroom as I had the mop, pails and things in it after the cleaning spree yesterday. It's rather huge by Danish standard and after looking at my colleague's washroom. I am lucky indeed as I am rather particular with washrooms.

The Living room.
Dining room
This is where I sleep! Bedroom. The view outside is rather comforting but just hope that I will not see someone staring back at me. The entire house is surrounded by other apartments and people can look through your windows. Danish doesn't really mind privacy.
Kitchen. The washing machine is in the kitchen!
This picture looks rather dark. It was taken this morning and it's the view from my kitchen. I could see the courtyard from my kitchen, bedroom and washroom.

The First Snow...

It was the first day Copenhagen snowed since I arrived. While I was starring intensely at the laptop, my colleague announced that it was snowing outside, yesterday afternoon. Curious, I looked out the window. Indeed, I saw white flakes falling from the sky. Just a light one though. It was raining but the air was so cold that it turned into snow.

Co-incidentally, I had a meeting with my colleagues in another office and managed to shower under the light snow while walking to my colleague's car. The air is getting colder these days and often, it's rainy the whole day. It also gets dark earlier. By 5pm, it looked like 8pm.

Winter is around the corner....
